About the Author

Salah S. El-Shakhs retired as professor of urban planning and policy development at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. He formally headed general planning for Greater Cairo and was a Senior Fulbright Scholar at Cairo University. His numerous publications include Population and the Urban Future . || Hooshang Amirahmadi is professor at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy and director of Rutgers University's Center for Middle Eastern Studies. He is founder and president of the American Iranian Council and a founder of the Center for Iranian Research and Analysis. Some of his books include The Caspian Region at a Crossroad and The United States and the Middle East.
