Originally created to defend Europe from the threat posed by the Soviet Union after WWII, NATO and its member states have experienced significant changes in the post Cold War era. No change has been more significant than that shared between the United States and NATO. Douglas chronicles those changes, the strategic implications, and the emergence of a new strategic doctrine that began to take shape prior to 9/11.
