About the Author

Lesley Nickell was born in 1944. Her interest in history was sparked by family outings to historical sites and buildings, including Boscobel House, where she saw the tiny priest hole in which Prince Charles (later Charles II) hid while escaping from the battle of Worcester. Encouraged by family and school, she started reading historical non-fiction and historical novels and began to write while still a schoolgirl. She wrote five historical novels in all. A passionate theatre-goer, she would spend a week in Stratford with her sister every year, and moved to the town in 1970. She died there in 2013.
