About the Author

Roger D. Launius is Chief Historian for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He is the author or editor of many books, including Alexander William Doniphan: Portrait of a Missouri Moderate (University of Missouri Press) and most recently Imagining Space: Achievements, Predictions, Possibilities, 1950-2000.
