Williams, the former editor of the seminal rock magazine Crawdaddy! , offers his choices for the best 100 rock'n'roll singles. Basing his selections on emotional impact rather than chart position or historical significance, he picks songs from Robert Johnson's 1937 hit ``Terraplane Blues'' to Neil Young's ``Rockin' in the Free World'' (1989). Except for a few surprising picks like Anita Ward's ``Ring My Bell'' (1979), Williams generally includes well-known songs by such recognizable rockers as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Prince, the Sex Pistols, and Bob Dylan.
