Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling (1775 1854), along with J.G.
Fichte and G.W.F. Hegel, was one of the three most influential
thinkers in the tradition of German Idealism. Among his philosophical
works are First Outline of a System of the Philosophy of Nature
(1799), System of Transcendental Idealism (1800), Philosophical
Inquiries into the Nature of Human Freedom (1809), The Ages of the
World (1813), and Philosophy of Mythology (1857). Klaus Ottmann is a philosopher, writer, and curator based in New York. He has written numerous essays on art, design, and philosophy, and is the author of The Genius Decision: The Extraordinary and the Postmodern Condition; The Essential Michelangelo; The Essential Mark Rothko; Wolfgang Laib: A Retrospective; and James Lee Byars: Life, Love, and Death. He is the curator of the sixth SITE Santa Fe international biennial, which takes place between July and December 2006.
