The author of several books, he is also the editor of the 20th edition of Sir Banister Fletcher's History of Architecture. Cruickshank is an honorary fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, an editor on The Architectural Review, and was a visiting Professor of Architecture at the University of Sheffield.
