The book that resulted, the 912-page Making Design: Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum Collections (Cooper Hewitt, $45), is a notable object in and of itself. The playful and reflective volume pairs and sequences 1,145 images from the museum's collection, purely according to Boom's inclination.
