John Grenier, a Lieutenant Colonel on active duty in the
U.S. Air Force, holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of
Colorado, Boulder. He is the author of The First Way of War:
American War Making on the Frontier, 1607-1814, which won the
Society for Military History's Distinguished Book Award for
2007.
