Born and educated in the UK, Piers Letcher has lived in France for the past 22 years. As an independent writer and photographer he has published 17 books, more than a thousand newspaper and magazine articles and hundreds of photographs. From the mid-nineties he spent several years as a speechwriter at the United Nations in Geneva, before returning to his freelance career in 2002. He is the author of Croatia and Eccentric France, and contributes irregularly to the Guardian Unlimited. Dubrovnik is his seventh guidebook.
