Reviews

I found the emotional rollercoaster diagram within the book an excellent explanation of emotions that you go through. This book gives the facts good and bad and possibilities of the years ahead. It also talks about the decisions you may decide upon whilst pregnant. I actually felt this book would be a fantastic book for grandparents as The Essential Guide is written as an understandable lay persona offering the reader a greater understanding in small sections. The book is factual and friendly making sure the reader is informed. The directory then will refer the reader for more information to let them know they are not alone.' Totz2teens.co.uk 'This is one of the many excellent guides in the Need-2-Know Series and is hot off the press. Even before reading it, I liked the layout. It is easy to read, concise (123 pages) yet also seems to cover all the essentials. It is for parents and carers of children up to the age of transition to adulthood. I think it would be especially helpful for the family who have just found out that their child has Downs. I would have liked this book when our daughter was born. Well recommended.'Alex Alaesser - Cerebra Newsbeat 'Providing information and sources of support, this book is essential reading for parents, carers, teachers and professionals working with children with Down's Syndrome. Published 1st June 2010, it covers all aspects, from diagnosis to adulthood, ensuring that parents receive all the guidance they need to support their child and family. By reading this book, you can develop your understanding of the condition and, perhaps more importantly, find out about the help available and how to access it.' Down's heart Group 'As a parent I read it with great interest and tried to envisage how I would have received it 27 years ago when my son was born, and appreciated its friendly, honest approach. It does deal with important issues and is accurate in reporting the stresses and strains on the lives of parents and their families, and, more importantly, how these can be addressed. The book is not intended to be an in-depth academic journal but benefit from reading about the feelings and concerns of parents and carers.' Jean Olsen Special magazine
