Reviews

"This globetrotting supernatural adventure is fueled by tight sequencing, a sprawling international cast, cross-species romance, and high-stakes conflict. A robust addition to a crowded genre." --PublishersWeekly.com

Gr 8 Up-Jenn has recently been appointed Hunter and team leader of an elite group of vampire hunters. Since she is the only member without a special ability, she is able to understand the dilemmas facing the human race in the war against the vampires. In the second volume (2011) in Nancy Holder and Debbie Vigiue's trilogy, the hunters of Salamanca must continue to work through the differences within the group because the team includes humans, a vampire, and a werewolf. They must also learn to work with resistance groups fighting against the Cursed Ones. While Jenn wants revenge on the Cursed One who converted her sister, she is also torn by her attraction to her hunting partner, Antonio de la Cruz, who is a vampire. The audiobook transitions smoothly from chapter to chapter since each new section begins with a location and list of key characters. Nicola Barber narrates with a variety of voices and accents, enhancing the audiobook's appeal. Since the story line often references events from Crusade (2010, both S & S/Simon Pulse; Brilliance, 2010), the first book in the trilogy, students should listen to that title first.-Elizabeth L.
