About the Author

Martin King Whyte is professor of sociology at Harvard University. His primary research interests are the sociology of the family and social change in the People's Republic of China and also the former Soviet Union. He is the author or editor of several books, and author of several journal articles. He is also a member of several professional associations including the American Sociological association, National Committee for U.S. China Relations, and Population Association of America.
