  • Before the Doobie Brothers took over the AM airwaves in the late 1970s and early '80s with their slick, commercial soul-pop, they were a rocking boogie band with a feel-good vibe. The primary difference between the band's two incarnations was soulster Michael Macdonald, and this Macdonald-less line-up finds the band returning to its roots for an exciting live date. Recorded in 2004, LIVE AT THE WOLF TRAP presents a surprisingly energized Doobies in their original form. Moreover, there's a battery of old school Doobies classics on hand, including "Long Train Running," "Black Water," and "Listen to the Music." The concert is also available on DVD.

After viewing the concert on TV, purchasing this CD was a must. The Doobie Brothers outshine their previous performances and leave their pre-recorded versions of all these songs for dead. If you're into The Eagles and/or other outstanding bands of the 70's and 80's and you haven't got Live at Wolf Trap in your collection, then you're missing out. Get a hold of it, plug it into your surround sound system and chillax while you take in the excellent musicianship, the superb compositions, the outstanding vocal ranges and harmonies and backing vocals and the passion that excudes from the Doobie Brothers having worked together for so many years. It's an essential addition to your collection.

Get it while you can. The orchestral sounds are magnificent as are the backing vocals and the instrumentation. It's a fine work of art and the Doobie Bros are the classic entertainers. If you're into The Eagles or some of the other major success stories of the 70's and 80's you're going to love this. Get it, play it, get your surround sound system working and chillax to this collection. It's fabulous.
