  • Although Cyndi Lauper has released only three albums of new material since her 1980s heyday--1992's underrated HAT FULL OF STARS, 1997's SISTERS OF AVALON, and 2004's SHINE--she has never slowed down, maintaining a near-constant presence on the concert circuit. As her retro cohorts the B-52's, Donna Summer, and Madonna all release new albums that consciously look back to their earlier hits for inspiration, Cyndi Lauper went in the opposite direction for BRING YA TO THE BRINK, releasing an album entirely unlike anything else she has previously done. Recorded in collaboration with a number of hot dance producers and mixers, BRING YA TO THE BRINK is a tough, sexy collection of sleek electronic dance songs more in keeping with modern trends in club tunes than with those girls who just wanna have fun like they did back in 1984.
Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.72) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Lauper teams up with pop-song doctors from the studio of Max Martin and electro wizards including Basement Jaxx and the Scumfrog for an album of club throb."

Entertainment Weekly (p.67) - "Here, the singer finally jumps back onto the dance floor....Lauper's distinctive squeak of a voice fits most comfortably over a dizzy, twisting beat from Britain's ever-inventive Basement Jaxx." -- Grade: B

Blender (Magazine) (p.73) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "'Set Your Heart' cures depression with steadfast friendship....Lauper hasn't sounded this relevant since her 1983 debut..."
