German Olympic medallist and World Champion, Ingrid Klimke, rides internationally at the highest level in both dressage and in eventing. She has tirelessly championed a balanced, fair and caring system of educating and training horses to ensure physical and mental well-being for the very top levels of international competition. In 2012, she was the second woman to be appointed to the position of Riding Master by the German Equestrian Federation (Reitmaster).
This review could have been the shortest ever written. One word
would have sufficed – Wow! Before I had read a word of the text I
was hooked on this book. It is a joy to look through, full of
fabulous colour photographs printed on glossy paper. Just a quick
glimpse is enough to show the reader how much Klimke’s love for her
horses and equestrian sport are very much in evidence. The cover
image says it all; a joyful rider with a huge smile and her horse
full of controlled power and spirit looking as if he would be
grinning too. The subtitle title of this book is ‘An Olympic
Medalist’s Winning Methods for a Joyful Riding Partnership.’ The
book does exactly what it says on the tin. This isn’t a book to
learn now to train your horse or to ride better, but it is
certainly a vital one to help riders understand that riding
shouldn’t be forced, it is a celebration of the bond and should be
required reading for anyone who competes.
