Reviews

Stephen King makes a gigantic leap back into top form with this psychological thriller...Under the Dome is the complete King package. - Herald Sun This is an action thriller that knows how to catch enriching detail without losing pace...As a work of popular fiction Under the Dome is primarily a roller-coaster ride . It offers terror, spectacle, hope, despair, lyricism and horror all skilfully deployed...the last 200 pages cry out to be read at a gulp. I ve seldom read anything more sustained. - Sydney Morning Herald Stephen King s latest is probably the most beautiful mystery you will read this year...a tightly written un-put-downable mystery. - Weekend Australian'Compulsively readable. - Grazia King's latest novel is one of his most powerful yet, with King's moral clarity giving the book a weightiness not shared by many other suspense and terror writers. - Australian Financial Review King states in his afterword that he tried to write a book that would keep the pedal consistently to the metal" and certainly the pace is relentless until a typical King cliffhanger ending. Under the Dome continues King's tradition of bestselling books which tap into contemporary mores and concerns. Steven Spielberg and King have linked up since publication to develop it into a TV series. - The Canberra Times'America's greatest living novelist delivers his masterpiece.' - Lee Child'King's most purely entertaining novel in years . . . utterly compelling.' - John Connolly

King leaves the supernatural behind to find the macabre in stories of ordinary misfortune. In each, ordinary people discover how their choices define who they are and what they can become. As usual, King's characters are multidimensional and colorful, if not necessarily sympathetic. Craig Wasson takes on two of the stories, and his raspy voice is a pleasure to listen to. The main characters in "1922" and "Fair Exchange" are not young men, and his mature gruffness and easy delivery are perfect. And while Jessica Hecht's reading of both "Big Driver" and "A Good Marriage" is pleasant and steady, her characterizations through dialogue are not very broad, and sometimes sound timid and whiny. Still, the strength of the stories keeps the listener enthralled. A Scribner hardcover. (Nov.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.

King, a modern master of short fiction, offers four disturbing but unforgettable novellas that explore our capacity for retribution. Narrators Craig Wasson and Jessica Hecht bring these psychological chillers to life. (LJ 3/15/11) (c) Copyright 2011. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
