Jeannie Baker was born in England, but now lives in Sydney, Australia. Her work often has an environmental focus and has won numerous awards, including the Friends of the Earth Earthworm Award for Where the Forest Meets the Sea and the 2005 Australian Wilderness Society Award and 2005 Australian Picture Book of the Year Honour Book for Belonging.
This book is inspirational. There is romance in it, and
neighbourliness and family affection. Talking about the pictures
with toddlers would stimulate verbal skills and powers of
observation, while older children can learn from it about time and
nature and society, or make images of the scenes from their own
windows. This book is ideal to stimulate art projects, classroom
discussions and even neighbourhood initiatives.
