With his Palast Orchester, German singer/bandleader Max Raabe conjures up the sound and image of another time, specifically the German dance-band era of the 1920s. HEUTE NACHT ODER NIE captures Raabe and company in concert in New York City, and over the course of its two discs, he delivers a period-perfect mix of early (pre-swing) jazz, pop, and Tin Pan Alley standards. In his droll but determined style, Raabe leads his band through a program that's dominated by German songs but also features his unique Teutonic take on such American classics as "Singin' in the Rain" and "These Foolish Things."
