About the Author

Paul Mendelson, best known as the London Financial Times bridge correspondent, is a leading author on bridge and poker. His main aim is to provide the best possible information on bridge and poker. Paul switched from chess to bridge while still at school and has stayed with the game ever since. He was the youngest ever captain of a winning Devonshire Cup team and claimed The National Schools' Championship in 1983. Representing London in the European Friendly Games in 1984, he went on to win gold and bronze medals in the Mind Sports Olympiad, and pairs' and teams' trophies in The Scottish National Championships, as well as numerous county and regional events. Paul is the author of three Right Way books on bridge as well as leaflets, booklets and magazine articles. He writes the Financial Times bridge column each week and has contributed to tournament commentaries. Administrator of The Macallan International Pairs Championship for several years, Paul is known to many of the world's finest players and is constantly seeking high-level innovations for his teaching and play. Never relying on rules alone, Paul insists on explaining the logical thought processes behind each decision. His students have gone on to win many competitions, and he has coached top players of a standard higher than himself. Paul is the bridge professional at the Roehampton Club in London and has lectured all over the world, running lessons, seminars and holidays. It is thanks to his work at the Roehampton Club that Paul, a devoted (and successful!) poker player, decided to write the UK's first ever Texas Hold 'Em guide for beginners. On advertising his new poker classes at the club, Paul was inundated and instantly saw the need for a book aimed squarely at beginners. Paul's expertise comes from a long association with gaming in the UK, South Africa and in Las Vegas, where he has profiled several of the world's leading casino owners and developers.
